In honor of the second anniversary of his book The Art of Still Life, Trekell Art Supplies will be holding a Still Life Competition with Pro Team artist Todd M. Casey, from February 18th - March 31st, 2022.
Open to US & Canadian artists, a still life painting is broadly defined as an arrangement of objects in a setting. Portraits and landscapes will not be accepted.
This painting can be done in any traditional media (No digital, no photography). The drawing, color, composition, and subject matter will all be taken into consideration when judging the competition.
However, the painting can be any size you desire. You must submit three shots of the work in progress - failure to do so will automatically disqualify you. Older work that is submitted will not be accepted.
1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be posted on our website and social media, as well as emailed directly on/by April 15th, 2022.
Prizes respectively consist of a $500, $250 and $150 Trekell Gift Certificate. Each winner will also receive a signed copy of Todd’s book, The Art of Still Life and a Todd M. Casey Print!
TODD M. CASEY
Todd M. Casey currently resides in New York, with his wife, Gina. When he is not working in his home studio, or preparing for gallery events, he reads Joseph Campbell, Paulo Coelho and Eckhardt Tolle, watches Woody Allen movies— or toils in his garden, when the weather allows.
He is inspired by the richness of vintage objects in historical cities, and enjoys incorporating antiquated narrative into his paintings.
He also finds inspiration throughout his travels, and paints the myriad items he collects.
There is a definite purity to Casey’s paintings; the order and function of classical realist art— but equally, a plush, sentimental homage to emotive recollection.
Casey paints images that are not constrained by the details of each subject’s frame; rather they emerge from their housing, passionate, contemplative, reverent, or regretful.
Make no mistake, Casey’s work is more than line and brush stroke. It is a colorful tour through the very powerful emotions, surging through one man’s mind.
His paintings have been honored with awards and can be found in collections throughout the United States.
He recently wrote the book “The Art of Still Life: A Contemporary Guide to Classical Techniques, Composition, and Painting in Oils” which is published by Monacelli Press.
